Dash0
An OpenTelemetry-native observability platform built entirely on open standards like OTLP, with no proprietary agent or data format.

What it is
Dash0 is a managed observability platform built from the ground up around OpenTelemetry rather than adding OTel support to an existing proprietary backend. It ingests metrics, traces, and logs over OTLP, stores them without converting to a proprietary format, and builds its query and alerting layer on open standards such as PromQL and Perses rather than a vendor-specific query language. In 2026 Dash0 acquired Lumigo, a serverless- and AWS-native observability company, extending its coverage into Lambda and other managed-cloud, event-driven architectures. It’s also the company that acquired Polar Signals (the commercial arm behind Parca) in August 2026, adding continuous profiling to its OpenTelemetry-native stack.
Why teams choose it
- No proprietary agent or lock-in format. Because ingestion, storage, and query are all built on OpenTelemetry and CNCF standards, switching away from Dash0 doesn’t require re-instrumenting applications the way leaving a proprietary-agent vendor typically does.
- Cost transparency tied to open standards. Dash0 markets predictable, usage-based cost control as a direct consequence of not needing a proprietary re-indexing or re-encoding step for incoming OTel data.
- Growing platform scope through acquisition. The Lumigo and Polar Signals acquisitions extend an OTel-native metrics/traces/logs core into serverless-specific observability and continuous profiling, rather than requiring a separate vendor for each.
- Newer and smaller than incumbent all-in-one platforms. Dash0 is a younger company than Datadog or New Relic, so ecosystem maturity (integrations, third-party tutorials, hiring pool familiarity) is still catching up even as its core technology bet has proven out.
Pricing model
Dash0 is a commercial SaaS platform with usage-based pricing, positioned around cost predictability as a direct benefit of its OpenTelemetry-native architecture rather than a separate cost-control product bolted on afterward.
Alternatives
SigNoz is the closest open-source, self-hosted alternative built on the same OpenTelemetry-native philosophy. Grafana’s LGTM stack (Loki, Grafana, Tempo, Mimir) offers similar open-standards-based coverage assembled from separate open-source projects rather than one platform. Honeycomb and Datadog are commercial alternatives with broader ecosystem maturity but less architectural commitment to OpenTelemetry as the sole data model.
